It was a marvelous weekend for both on the bay and on the ocean sailors at Mission Bay, San Diego. Mission Bay Yacht Club (MBYC) hosted the 85th Annual SCYA Midwinters Regatta over the Presidents Day Weekend on both Saturday. MBYC celebrated holding races for over seven fleets with over 45 boats taking part. One fleet stood out as it drew sailors from Connecticut, New York, Utah, Arizona and Washington. The MC Scow fleet showed up in force from all over the United States and even attracted Commodore Robert Cole who heads up the MC Scow Sailing Association. Commodore Cole placed first in the fleet’s competition during the Midwinters. MBYC’s Commodore, Brian Anderson also sailed a MC Scow during the completion.

Fourteen MC Scow’s participated in the race as this class picks up interest in the San Diego area.  MBYC has one of the larger contingents of MC Scows in Southern California and has been instrumental in making this class more popular in the San Diego region. It was a fun packed weekend for MC Scow sailing and it offered some of the east coast sailors to get some California sunshine. SCYA thanks all the MBYC participants, race committee members, and all the volunteers that support the Midwinter Regatta. A very special thanks to Jaime Hoffman who headed up the event, and to all the members of MBYC for hosting another wonderful year.
